Bernard Tomic vs. Michael Yani: 2011 US Open Match Preview
World No. 62 Bernard Tomic is the highest ranked Australian male tennis player and the youngest player currently in the top 100. Well, the Australian will start off his 2011 US Open campaign against the American qualifier Michael Yani, who is ranked 208 in the world. Tomic looks crushing favourite in this battle against Yani, who does not have a satisfactory record on tour.
Tomic hit the headlines after reaching the third-round at the Aussie Open earlier this year and delighted his home fans. Tomic has a poor 9-8 win-loss record this year on tour, but considering his age, he still has enough time to make his mark in the world of tennis. After his Melbourne exploits, Tomic once again surprised everyone by reaching the quarterfinal at Wimbledon, as he ousted fourth-seeded Soderling in the fourth-round and then experienced Xavier Malisse to become the youngest player since Boris Becker in 1986 to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. This lad certainly promises a lot and it would be interesting to see how he would fare in the US Open this year.
Tomic’s opponent Yani qualified for Wimbledon in 2009 and then for the US Open in the same year, but he was ousted in the opening rounds – on both occasions. In 2010, he qualified for the French Open, but once again fell in the opening round. Yani has a poor 3-10 win-loss record this year.
Well, this will be a first meeting between the two and Yani can give his best shot here to reach the second-round of a Grand Slam – for the very first time in his career.

Petra Kvitova vs. Alexandra Dulgheru- 2011 US Open Match Preview
2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova takes on Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru for a place in the second round of the 2011 US Open, season's last Grand Slam event being played here at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA.
Life changed for Czech Petra Kvitova on July 2nd 2011 when she claimed the biggest and the most coveted prize of her tennis career by claiming the Wimbledon Ladies singles title. Kvitova's win came as a surprise for many including fellow players who were taken aback by the lefthander's massive serving and breakthtaking groundstrokes. Kvitova's victory, however, was in many ways, justified since she entered the Championships with three titles in her kitty - Brisbane, Paris and Madrid. Kvitova has wins over almost all top players this season including Kim Cijsters, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka. Kvitova sure has the calibre to go all the way once again, however lack of match practice is also a concern since Kvitova only has a handful of contests to her credit before entering the US Open fortnight.
Kvitova's opponent, Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru shot to super stardom and in rankings as well when she claimed her maiden WTA singles title in Warsaw two years ago. Currently ranked 49 in the world, Dulgheru has two career titles to her name which she won in Warsaw in 2009 and 2010. This year, Dulgheru's best came in Miami where she finished quarterfinalist after losing a tight three-setter to Maria Sharapova.
Both players have already contested a match before which favoured Kvitova in two easy sets at this year's Madrid Open.
The Wimbledon champion is definitely a favourite to win and should come out a winner in straight sets once again.

Tomas Berdych vs. Romain Jouan-2011 US Open match preview
Tomas Berdych is ranked at number 9 in the world. On the other hand Romain Jouan is ranked at 230 among the ATP rankings.
Berdych has been having a fruitful few months as he snatched a quarterfinal spot in Canada and a semi-final performance in Cincinnati. He also went on to reach the last four in Bastad prior to that. The Czech also had a good result at the twin ATP1000 events of Rome and Madrid where he successfully stepped among the last eight. He will be trying his best to make it big at the US Open.
Jouan has been nailing wins at the ITF challengers and Futures events as this year has been filled with quarterfinal and semi-final spots. As part of his ATP presence, he has played a few qualifying rounds at this year’s French Open, Marseille, the Australian Open, Stuttgart and Hale. He will have to raise the bar if he wants to put forth a challenge to Tomas Berdych.
Both the players have never met before and this will be the first time that both players will be playing each other. Berdych can slam massive serves, aggressive forehands and can change pace with his backhands. Jouan can play tactical backhands and angle sharp volleys. Berdych should be able to come through in three straight sets.
