The best female tennis stars will be seen in the next two weeks at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the 23rd edition of BNP Paribas Open. The battle for the top ranking resumes at this prestigious event. World number one Caroline Wozniacki and world number two Kim Clijsters lead the talented field. Wozniacki is last year’s runner-up and must perform better in this tournament in order to keep the top ranking. Clijsters, the two-time Indian Wells champion, will have to progress further than Wozniacki to take the top ranking once more.

Eight of the world’s top ten and eighteen of the world’s top twenty are going to take part at BNP Paribas Open. The Williams sisters are the notable absentees in this tournament.

The best male tennis stars are featured this week at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells 2011. This is the first of nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in the tennis calendar. Last year, nearly 340,000 viewers flocked at the Coachella Valley to witness the 12-day tennis event, thus setting a record to be the first tourney aside from the Grand Slams to overtake the 300,000 mark.

Leading the men’s field is current world number one Rafael Nadal who’s back in action after a five-week break to recover from injury. The two-time champion aims to improve on his semifinal finish last year (beaten by eventual titlist Ivan Ljubicic).
World number two Roger Federer is chasing his 18th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title. The three-time Indian Wells champion will have a chance to improve on his ranking points if goes past the fourth round this year.
