The first of the three ATP 1000 claycourt tournaments begins this week in Monaco. The ATP World Tour Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2011 features the world’s best male tennis players competing for a large share of the multimillion cash prize money plus 1000 ranking points. Six-time defending champion Rafael Nadal heads the talented field and with a 34-1 record in this tournament, it is understandable that he’s the crowd favorite to win his 7th title here and his 19th career Masters title.
With the announcement of Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal in this event, the second seeding for this event went to three-time finalist Roger Federer. Federer currently trails Nadal in terms of number of Masters titles won (at 17) and if he wins the Monte Carlo Masters 2011 title, he’ll even things out with his younger rival.
