Petra Kvitova vs. Alexandra Dulgheru- 2011 US Open Match Preview

2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova takes on Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru for a place in the second round of the 2011 US Open, season's last Grand Slam event being played here at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA.

Life changed for Czech Petra Kvitova on July 2nd 2011 when she claimed the biggest and the most coveted prize of her tennis career by claiming the Wimbledon Ladies singles title. Kvitova's win came as a surprise for many including fellow players who were taken aback by the lefthander's massive serving and breakthtaking groundstrokes. Kvitova's victory, however, was in many ways, justified since she entered the Championships with three titles in her kitty - Brisbane, Paris and Madrid. Kvitova has wins over almost all top players this season including Kim Cijsters, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka. Kvitova sure has the calibre to go all the way once again, however lack of match practice is also a concern since Kvitova only has a handful of contests to her credit before entering the US Open fortnight.

Kvitova's opponent, Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru shot to super stardom and in rankings as well when she claimed her maiden WTA singles title in Warsaw two years ago. Currently ranked 49 in the world, Dulgheru has two career titles to her name which she won in Warsaw in 2009 and 2010. This year, Dulgheru's best came in Miami where she finished quarterfinalist after losing a tight three-setter to Maria Sharapova.

Both players have already contested a match before which favoured Kvitova in two easy sets at this year's Madrid Open.

The Wimbledon champion is definitely a favourite to win and should come out a winner in straight sets once again.
